Dream On: Terra Inca Indigo Eyeshadow

Friday, June 24th, 2011

Friday afternoon is the perfect excuse for a bit of window shopping, and this week I’ve got Guerlain’s gorgeous Terra Inca Indigo palette on my mind. It’s been around for a while, but every time I stumble across it I’m sucked back into considering a purchase.

As a big fan of gold eyeshadow, this is a product I know I would actually use (if I could bring myself to break into the gorgeous design). Blended with smokier shades or deep emerald blue, the gilded shade would look amazing on tanned skin. This is the perfect palette for creating really dramatic Summer eyes…

…or just for popping on your dresser so you can open it and stare occasionally. It’s £37 at Debenhams.

Dream On: Tom Ford Neroli Portofino

Friday, May 27th, 2011

Back when I worked in a cosmetics shop, I could tell the moment anyone had restocked a product containing the rich, citrus Neroli oil. It’s such a pervasive scent, and so instantly recognisable, that it quickly joined Jasmine on my list of top fragrance ingredients.

And now Tom Ford, he of unquestionable taste, sex appeal and access to Colin Firth’s phone number, has taken Tunisian Neroli and blended it with its perfect partners (other citruses, plus Bergamot and Lavendar to sweeten the bitterness) to make Neroli Portofino, an indulgent scent that goes straight to the top of my wishlist despite the fact I’ve not actually sniffed it yet.

Unfortunately, with this designer scent comes a designer price tag of just over £230. However, for that you get a whopping 250ml. Most fragrances come in 30ml or 50ml bottles for about £30 – £50, so on a ml for ml basis, it’s not actually as bad as it sounds.

I know, I know. You believe me, thousands wouldn’t…

Dream On: Benefit Skincare

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

Let’s be honest shall we? Most of us would probably fool ourselves into thinking that Benefit’s new skincare range is the best thing to happen to our skin since NARS Orgasm purely because it looks so pretty. Imagine having this whole collection sat on the bathroom shelf or bedside table. It’s so cute.

But does it work? Well, reviews so far seem pretty good. Hello beauty blog raves about most of the range, as does Krasey Beauty. British Beauty Blogger has put the facial polish through its paces and it comes off well.

Benefit are so highly regarded when it comes to their makeup that I’d like to think their skincare would live up to the hype and deliver good results. The emphasis seems to be on radiance and brightness (something no doubt we could all benefit from) and if what’s inside the bottles is half as fabulous as the bottles themselves, I’m sold. Have any of you guys tried it yet?

Benefit skincare product start at £16.15

Dream On: Edward Bess Lip Wardrobe

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

I love having things on display. Drawers and boxes are not for me. I like lining nail polishes up on shelves, hanging jewellery on the wall and piling up perfume bottles on my dressing table. Given my own way, I would also have my sunglasses on a revolving display rack and my shoes filling the hallway on floor-to-ceiling shelving units.

So I love love love the Edward Bess Lip Wardrobe, which looks like a makeup counter display you can keep at home. You get ten lipsticks and five glosses, which are designed to be beautifully wearable and classic (so basically, pinks, nudes and a couple of classic reds).

The whole set costs (wait for it) £300, which works out at £20 per lip product. Edward Bess glosses are £22 and lipsticks £24 when sold separately, so it does represent a big saving if you were to use all the shades. If not, you may be better saving your pennies and just buying one or two classic colours.

It is pretty though, isn’t it? If you’ve got money to burn, buy it exclusively at Zuneta.

Dream On: PPQ for Steamcream

Friday, January 21st, 2011

This is a bit of a sneaky ‘dream on’ product, because at £10 per pot, this set of 3 Steamcream tins is actually reasonably affordable. But it makes the cut because it’s quite indulgent to buy three pots of the same product purely because of the packaging, and the fact they’re designed by Amy Molyneaux of fashion brand PPQ.

Steamcream is a multi-purpose moisturiser that’s formulated using steam, which apparently means it emulsifies much faster than other creams, making it lighter and glossier. The brand is known for its cute printed tins, which fans collect (think grown-up Pogs!) and re-use.

The cute PPQ tins have been around for a while, but they are technically limited edition which means stockists are a bit limited. The letters one is on the Steamcream website and on Beauty Bay, and Boots have stock of the purple cat tin. The Beauty Booth has all three in a set, and also sells the orange cat tin on its own.

Dream On: Stila and E! team up with ‘Camera Ready’ palette

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

Seeing this gorgeous Camera Ready Blockbuster Palette just makes me bemoan even more than usual the fact Stila has been withdrawn from the UK market. A few online retailers, including Beauty Bay still stock the brand, but so far this palette (which is part of a fun collab with E! Live on the Red Carpet) hasn’t made it over the Pond.

Which is a crying shame, because there’s nothing I love more than a beautifully designed palette…except perhaps the gorgeous texture of Stila eyeshadows. I carry a custom palette of four Stila colours around with me all the time (Diamond Lil, La Douce, Twig and Golightly) but this baby contains a stonking 21 – all named after celebs. There are also two of the famed convertible colours, two cheek colours and a built-in mirror. The estimated value of the products is $168, but the set retails in the US for a very reasonable $42 (about £27). Consider it on my wishlist!

Dream On: By Terry Terribly Rouge Gift Set

Monday, December 6th, 2010

As dream gifts go, this one really takes the biscuit. £115 for three bits of makeup is beyond the realms of possibility (not to mention common sense) for most of us, but by putting them all in a ‘keepsake box’, that’s what By Terry charge for this Terribly Rouge Gift Set.

But as we all know, the greatest thing about gifts is that they’re bought by someone else, so if you know someone with endless piles of cash lying about, send them to Space NK where they can nab you the box, which contains three of the bestselling products from the super-luxurous, and beatifully packaged, Terrybly by Terry range.

The products are Terrybly Lipstick in Terrific Rouge (worth £30), Terrybly Blush in Platonic Coral (worth £50!) and Terrybly Mascara in Black (worth £30).

Dream On: Liz Earle Ultimate Christmas Hamper

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

When they put the word ‘Ultimate’ in the name of this product, they weren’t exaggerating. If you’re a fan of Liz Earle’s nature-inspired beauty products (and if you’re not, I can only assume it’s because you’ve not tried them yet) there could be no greater gift for you than this amazing hamper, which is stuffed full of just about every product the brand is famous for!

You get a full skincare set, including the multi award winning, absolutely brilliant Cleanse & Polish hot cloth cleanser, as well as almost the entire line of body products. I really rate the Orange Flower Botanical Body Wash, especially for more sensitive skins, and the nourishing body cream is brilliant in Winter as it’s packed full of warming essential oils like lavendar and rose.

The hamper will set you back a rather frightening £163.25, but it really does contain everything you’ll ever need to keep your face and body looking lovely. If funds won’t stretch that far, the products are all available individually, or smaller sample gift sets start at around £25.

Dream On: L’Occitane Fleur Cherie Gift Set

Monday, November 15th, 2010

I’m completely in love with L’Occitane’s new Fleur Cherie range. Not only are the products beautifully packaged in art deco-esque vintage peach, but they smell beautiful too – anyone who snagged the free hand cream with last month’s In Style will attest! I love L’Occitane’s rich hand creams anyway, but this one is slightly lighter and sinks in like a dream, so it’s perfect to keep on my desk when I need to get back to typing seconds after applying it!

The hand cream is one of five products that make up the beautiful Fleur Cherie gift set (£73). In the pretty peach hatbox you also get a 75ml fragrance, 250ml shower gel and body lotion and a chunky 75g soap.

Obviously the perfume is a big part of this set, so you need to match the fragrance to the perfect recipient. I’d say this is a great gift for someone who likes their fragrance to be clean, gentle and fairly unassuming. Fleur Cherie is a very soft romantic floral and has an almost soapy scent to it on some skins. I’d compare it to a favourite of mine for day, Philosophy Amazing Grace.

Dream On: Urban Decay Naked Palette

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

Nude make-up is all well and good, but many natural palettes contain colours so bland and beige that you end up looking like you’re not even wearing makeup.

Urban Decay doesn’t fall into that camp. This is a brand that won’t ‘do’ boring, and the UD take on a neutral palette is anything but. Combining seven bestselling shadows with five brand new ones, taking you from champagne through to gunmetal, it gives you a more dramatic take on a ‘naked’ face while remaining true to the coloures that traditionally make up the trend.

The gorgeous palette also comes with a double-ended liner pencil (UD’s liners are beautiful to use) and a travel size version of the bestselling, must-have primer potion.

Get in quick if you fancy this, it’s £27 at Beauty Bay and bound to sell out fast.
