Not that she needs much airbrushing, the latest celebrity to join the ever flowing fans of Airbase Airbrush Makeup is Barbadian beauty Rihanna.
The Rude Girl was filmed on the set of the video for her latest single ‘You Da One,’ covered in Airbase’s Porcelain Foundation (£32.95), giving her that porcelain finish inspired by cult classic A Clockwork Orange. The foundation uses silicone instead of water plus heat resistant properties to deliver a long-lasting, smooth base – ideal for maintaining coverage under hot, studio lights (or dancing on a Friday night!)

Us women excel in many a thing, but the one thing we fall down on is body confidence. We’re constantly striving to be what we think is perfect and with an increase in women going under the knife to achieve this, you’ve got to wonder if it’s worth it. This is exactly why Karen Boyle founded Anamchara Detox, a seven day retreat located in Somerset where Karen and her team of experts help you reach your goals through nutrition, exercise, Naturopathy, beauty treatments and detox. Whilst there, you will also learn how to change your whole mindset for good (including raw cooking classes) – think of it as a turbo detox for not just your body (previous visitors have lost between 9-12lbs), but your mind too.
We caught up with Karen for her tips on surviving the festive season – and keeping your body in tact!
How can we make sure to stay trim over the festive period without missing cutting back too much?
Christmas can be a challenging time for all of us, temptations of wine, food and festive parties all add to the indulgence. Always drink water 20 minutes before any meal, and lots of water before you go out. Drinking water helps to create a feeling of satiety and also our body often gives off hunger pangs when actually we’re dehydrated.
Eat before you drink! Alcohol is one of only 2 substances that absorbs directly through the stomach lining and into the bloodstream, this is why you get drunk so quickly on an empty stomach.
Don’t eat with your eyes but focus on your tummy. We tend to eat with our eyes and we’ve also had it drilled into us from our grandparents who survived world wars and rationing that we should finish everything on our plate. Interestingly blind people are very rarely overweight! As a fun experiment try eating one meal blindfolded (at home that is and not in a restaurant!). With your eyes closed or covered you always eat more slowly, chew more and you will become more aware of being full.
Most indulgence happens in the evening so you have all day to prepare. Eat lots of fruit in the mornings and again drink lots of water. If you do happen to over do it a good quality multi vitamin at the end of the evening will help you feel better.
What one healthy tip can we follow daily to see an improvement to our bodies?
Keep your body hydrated. If the body does not have enough water, it will leach the moisture from other organs in the body. Drink plenty of water and eat lots of fruit, particularly in the morning.
How important is it to detox your body on a regular basis?
It depends on how frequently and to what extent that your putting toxins into your system but clearly the more compromised your lifestyle the greater the need. If your body is consistently giving you subtle signals then listen to them, these are like early warning systems. Symptoms such as; constant tiredness, skin problems, headaches, feeling low and anxious and digestive problems are all signals things are not quiet right. Rather than taking a pill to fix an ill look at your lifestyle and visit a nutritionist or naturopath.
What’s the biggest health myth you wish people would stop believing?
We live in an instant gratification world, we want happiness and solutions immediately and it’s unrealistic. Diets sadly don’t really work and that’s not because the diets aren’t good advice, they normally are, but our lifestyles make it difficult for us and we are programmed into quick fixes so we never stick to anything. If you want things to change for good then it’s important to take a step back and realise this change needs to come from within. You need to look at the whole picture and not just one part.
What are your tips on detoxing after Christmas?
Buy yourself a Christmas present in advance and book in to see a nutritionist or naturopath in the New Year, even better see them just before Christmas and follow up just after; Create a food diary, write down what you eat and why you want to eat it – that thought process alone will make you think twice; Drink lots of water throughout the day, have a bottle next to your desk and have 2 pints of water in the morning before you drink anything else; Eat lots of fruit particularly in the morning when the body is going through its greatest absorption phase or better still, buy a juicer and make a fresh juice every morning. Finally come to Anamchara for a 7 day, weight loss, juicing and detox retreat www.anamcharadetox.com and kick start a new life for yourself.

Walking into the Thai Square Spa in Covent Garden, I immediately left my baggage at the door and was transported to a faraway, exotic land. Before changing, I had to remove my shoes, a touch I liked but wondered how I’d have faired without pumps on. The changing room was a bit of a downfall – it was plenty big enough for one person but if you happened to be sharing it with someone else, it was quite cosy. No room to be shy here!
The treatment began with a cup of specially blended tea and a foot bath, before my therapist washed and cleaned my feet. The treatment itself is designed to aid lymphatic drainage and stimulate the body’s healing powers – all I cared about was the amazing massage going on. My therapist knew the exact points at which I suffer tension from and kneaded them away quickly and efficiently, checking all the time that the pressure was OK and that I was comfortable. I’ve had many lymphatic drainage massages before but what I loved about this treatment was the mix of the two massage techniques, so it was both relaxing and revitalising.
Apres massage, I was invited to relax in the ‘chill out’ area (pictured above) where I did indeed relax with a cuppa and magazines. Perfect end to a perfect massage.

There’s something about fig scented products that seem so of the moment, they’re practically futuristic. The warm, sensual yet fresh scent really taps into our love affair of the modern classic. Arran Aromatics, the luxury natural bath and body care producer from the Isle of Arran has somehow managed to transport the scent to a whole new level with their Fresh Fig range. A rather tempting blend of fig leaf with violet leaf, sweet orange, cinnamon and cedar wood makes this the perfect day to night scent whilst the scented candle incorporates the dense greenery of cassis and dried fruity notes of fig with a mellow cedar floral back note.
Plus, we’re giving away an Arran Aromatics Fresh Fig EDT and candle over on our Twitter page – the competition kicks off at midday, so get following and RT-ing!

Choosing a fragrance is a fine art. We’ve all been there – walking through the perfume counters of various high street department stores and getting lost in a fug of fragrance. You end up being sprayed with so many different scents that you run out of body parts! Not to mention the overdose of varying smells and scents, it can all get a bit much. Which is why Jo Fairley, who handpicked the fragrances in The Fragrance Discovery Box, has passed on her fragrance shopping secrets:
* Never shop for fragrance in a hurry. It’s expensive! When you rush, you make mistakes because you’re making snap judgements and perfumes take time to unfold on the skin.
* Blotters are a useful way of eliminating no-hopers and lining up possibilities – but they’re not really enough to based a perfume purhcase on. You really need to smell a scent on your own skin.
* When you’ve narrowed down your choices, ideally don’t try more than two at a time – one on each wrist. At a push, you can try two more on the inside of the elbow, which is also a good pulse-point.
* Before you part with your cash, be sure you love every stage of a perfume: top notes, heart notes and the lingering bas.
* The more you read about perfume, on blogs and in books, the greater your appreciation will be.

Ever seen nail art and thought, I could do that? If so, or if you’re game to try, our new ‘how to’ guides are just the thing you need. Award winning nail artist Sam Biddle will take you through the steps of recreating some of the coolest nail art designs this side of Christmas.

First up is The Red Dragon, a spin on the cooler than cool ‘moon manicure’, above.
Step 1: Prepare the nails and apply a base coat. For this design, polish the nails with Chanel‘s Dragon and allow to dry.

Step 2: Dip either a small bristled brush or a nail art pen, such as The Sugar Styler, into a gold water based paint (make sure the paint has the viscosity of double cream). Paint a line along the half moon near the cuticle area, and fill in.

Step 3: Now draw a line down the centre of the nail and allow to dry. Finish with top coat.

Check back next week for the next instalment and your chance to win your very own Sugar Styler. In the meantime, Tweet us at @latestinbeauty with pictures of your handiwork. Steady hands at the ready…

I’m a total mascara junkie and often have 3 or 4 on the go at one time. So I was rather excited to hear that Bourjois has added a new mascara to their remit, the Volume Glamour Max. A favourite backstage at LFW, it was used to create doll like lashes (wonder if Little Mix used it for their doll-inspired X Factor performance). I’m a fan of a big, full brush (wahey) and this is one of the big ones – it easily coats lashes from root to tip and instantly fattens them up. Big brush fans, this is the Daddy for you…
