Cheap Thrills: Accessorize Blusher

There was quite some hype surrounding the launch of Accessorize’s makeup range last year, no product more so than the blusher.

Stored in a butterfly-embellished compact, this is a domed, baked blusher with marbled pigments, which has unsurprisingly drawn comparisons to the more expensive Mineralize blush from MAC. They’re not complete dupes by any means, but they’re incredibly similar and at a third of the price of the MAC product, the Accessorize blush is definitely worth a closer look…

I tried the blush in Starlet, which in the compact looks like quite a bold, bright pink. But the joy of baked pigments is that they’re incredibly sheer, meaning you can build up the colour very slowly for a really natural ‘glow from within’ look. I found on my pale skin that two brush sweeps of Starlet was perfect for a natural blush. It is quite pink, but the result is pretty, not fake-looking, and the gold/yellow running through adds just a little bit of shimmer. You could easily build up the colour for something more dramatic, but I love how soft it is on first application. I think many of us have a tendency to be quite heavy-handed with blusher, so this is a great product for toning that down!

Accessorize blush in Starlet is £5 at Accessorize online, or buy it at selected Superdrug stores.
