Katy Perry for ghd pictures released

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

It was announced a little while ago that Katy Perry had been signed as the new face of ghd hair stylers, and now the first images have been released.

Shot by renowned photographer David LaChapelle, the three images represent what ghd consider to be three Iconic Eras of Style, and show how the styler (don’t call it a straightnener!) can be used to recreate the looks.

Special gift sets containing the ghd gold classic styler, a bag designed to compliment the style and various other products have been created to match each of the eras. There are also step-by-step guides for how to create each of Katy’s looks. First up (above) is Glamour, a 50s inspired look. Keep reading for more…

Get lovely lips with Smith’s Rosebud Salve

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

Smith’s Rosebud Salve was one of those cult beauty products that I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a few years ago. I love anything with that vintage apothecary feel, and when the products actually work, it’s even better!

I’ve worked my way through various tins of Smith’s products since then. I love both the waxier Strawberry balm and the softer, more Vaseline-esque original Rosebud salve, so I was happy to discover this gift set, which includes both those formulas plus the Rosebud lipbalm, all packaged up in a vintage inspired tin.

I tend to use the salve at night, as it’s a lot more sticky and heavy on the lips and makes a great overnight treatment. The balms are great for a quick application when out and about, and also work better in warmer climates when the salve can melt a bit. The strawberry one smells exactly like the Mr Men and Little Miss lipbalms I used to have as a kid, so I think there’s an element of nostalgia there for me. I love anything that reminds me of being a kid!

Editor’s Secrets: Philosophy Grace Collection

Monday, April 4th, 2011

When I tried Philosophy Amazing Grace, it was love at first sniff. I know a lot of people compare this super-clean, fresh scent to laundry detergent and soap (which, let’s face it, are a lot cheaper to stock up on) but sometimes I need a change from the headier Jasmine-based scents I often wear, and this is the perfect daytime antidote. I’ve bought both the fragrance and the 3-in-1 wash, and quickly worked my way through them!

I recently tried the newer scent, Eternal Grace, which is very similar to Amazing Grace but with a shot of Spring citrus, and it’s just as gorgeous this time of year.

So I was excited to see that Philosophy have a ‘Beauty of Grace’ gift set in two fragrance options, one of which is full of some of my favourite Amazing Grace and Eternal Grace products. You get a Eternal Grace Spray Fragrance (60ml), an Eternal Grace Perfumed Shampoo, Bath & Shower Gel (240ml), an Amazing Grace Perfumed Shampoo, Bath & Shower Gel (240ml), an Amazing Grace Firming Body Lotion (240ml), an Amazing Grace Hand Wash (225ml) an Amazing Grace concentrated Perfume Oil Roll-on and 2 flat-packed gift boxes for £48.84.

This is a fab way to get introduced to the brand and the fragrances, and layering the scent will make it last much longer so the mix of products is great. I’m definitely popping this on my wishlist!

Wake up your eyes with Origins’ fab gift set

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

I’ve been using Origins GinZing eye cream for the last few weeks and have been really impressed with the results, so I’m amazed to find it in a gift set at Boots that is absolutely amazing value. For £12.50 you get the cream (worth over £20 alone!) plus a Full Story Lash Loving Mascara and a Dual Ended Lip Gloss, all in a cosmetics bag. Amazing!

I’ve waxed lyrical many times about the fact I suffer from dark circles and puffy eyes, and this a product created specifically for that. I love how it feels when you first apply it – really cool and refreshing, but the ginger is subtle so it doesn’t make your eyes water! As it soaks in it tightens the skin around the eyes just lightly, to depuff and wake up your skin. It even has a tiny bit of light-reflecting shimmer in it to make you look wide awake. I find if I apply this a few minutes before my foundation and concealer, I need a hell of a lot less than normal!

I’d definitely recommend grabbing this gift set if you have puffy eyes, it’s such a good deal, and the eye cream will last you ages. Throw it in your bag for touch-ups during the day. It’ll make you look wide awake even if you’re not feeling it!

Elemis Mothers 4 Children kit – 50% off in time for mother’s day!

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

I know I keep banging on about Mother’s Day, but if I mention it often enough, you can’t blame me if you still forget to pick up the phone on Sunday (or get to the post office by Friday). There’s even still time to buy online if you get a move on, and with offers like this one, it seems silly not to.

This kit from Elemis was created to support the Mothers4Children charity, and I think that’s a lovely match for Mother’s Day. They asked daughters, grandmothers and mothers-to-be for their top Elemis picks, and put them together in this gorgeous luxury kit, which is currently available on Look Fantastic at a whopping 50% discount. £1 from each sale goes to the charity – not a huge amount but something is better than nothing…

The set usually retails at £92 but is yours for £46 – click here to buy.

It contains:

* Daily Cleansing Skin Nourishing Shower Cream – 100ml
* Skin S.O.S Emergency Cream – 15ml
* Daily Body Moisturising Skin Nourishing Hand And Body Lotion – 50ml
* Body Treat Skin Nourishing Milk Bath – 125ml
* Daily Skin Moisturiser Maximum Moisture Day Cream – 50ml
* Body Treat Exotic Frangipani Monoi Moisture Melt – 100ml

All gorgeous, tried-and-tested Elemis products that your mum will undoubtedly love. Or maybe just buy them for yourself. Go on, you deserve it…

Benefit bargain – Crescent Row perfumes for half price

Monday, March 21st, 2011

There’s a great bargain to be had on the Debenhams website at the moment if you’re a fan of Benefit (who isn’t?). Two of the gorgeous Crescent Row limited edition fragrances are being sold in gift sets with body lotion at half price, making them a bargain £17.25 each. I love the cocktail shaker bottles and gorgeous house-shaped packaging – as always Benefit know how to do retro kitsch in a cool, not cheap-looking way.

Something About Sofia (in pink) is a fruity oriental with mango & freesia, sheer lily, jasmine sambac & peony with musk, caramel & vanilla. Laugh With Me Lee Lee (blue) is a woody floral, blending citrus, jasmine & lily blossoms. I’ve sniffed all the range instore and it’s hard to go wrong if you like girlie florals. Plus, just think how cute they’ll look on the bathroom shelf!

Big Benefit beauty savings at ASOS

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

Fans of Benefit should get themselves over to ASOS, where exclusive gifts have been reduced in the sale, meaning some really good prices on cult items. My top pick is the Got Some Cheek! set, which contains vials of the bestselling Benetint and it’s sister Posietint, along with a full size Powder Pop palette, containing three cheek powders; Dallas, Hoola and Dandelion.

Benefit’s prettily-packaged cheek powders are some of their most universally loved products, and everyone has a favourite (mine is Dallas). With three to choose from in this set, it’s a great way to introduce yourself to the brand without having to splash out too much on a single product.

The set is reduced from £27 to £18.90 at ASOS.

Dream On: By Terry Terribly Rouge Gift Set

Monday, December 6th, 2010

As dream gifts go, this one really takes the biscuit. £115 for three bits of makeup is beyond the realms of possibility (not to mention common sense) for most of us, but by putting them all in a ‘keepsake box’, that’s what By Terry charge for this Terribly Rouge Gift Set.

But as we all know, the greatest thing about gifts is that they’re bought by someone else, so if you know someone with endless piles of cash lying about, send them to Space NK where they can nab you the box, which contains three of the bestselling products from the super-luxurous, and beatifully packaged, Terrybly by Terry range.

The products are Terrybly Lipstick in Terrific Rouge (worth £30), Terrybly Blush in Platonic Coral (worth £50!) and Terrybly Mascara in Black (worth £30).
