Bare Escentuals have just launched their Bare Minerals skincare range in the UK, which contains what they call the 100% pure RareMinerals ActiveSoil Complex, a new ingredient ‘discovered’ by the brand that’s essentially a potent mineral powder refined from untouched, mineral-rich soil. Like the foundation (‘so natural you can sleep in it’) this stuff is also incredibly natural and gentle (‘so natural you can drink it’ – and we did at the launch!). The active ingredient claims to have big effects on radiance and pore size, to refine the skin over time.
I’m currently trying the whole range (which also includes a tinted mineral powder you put on at night – a bit weird) and while I remain ambivalent about the rest of the range (too soon to tell, perhaps) I am already hooked on the Deep Cleansing Foam.
You only need a tiny amount of this (the packaging suggest a ‘pearl sized’ blob) and by adding a few drops of water, it emulsifies into a really rich, creamy foam that spreads over a damp face with ease. It’s not your usual cleansing lather – there are no noticeable bubbles, it’s much creamier than you’d expect which is lovely on drier winter skin. The more water you add, the thinner the emulsion becomes so you can gently massage it off and pat dry.
I love how this feels to work with – it’s almost like washing with moisturiser because of the thick creamy lather, and while the skin feels deeply cleansed when you rinse, it doesn’t feel tight in the slightest. The packaging says to avoid the eye area but I’ve actually found it gentle enough to use round my eyes (with care). That said, I do tend to just use this in the morning, then use a cleansing balm at night when I have makeup that needs removing as I hate having to double-cleanse unnecessarily.
If you have a dry (or combination-dry) skin but like to use a wash-off cleanser rather than a milk, I’d definitely recommend trying this. I’ll keep you posted with my thoughts on the rest of the range once I’ve tried it for a bit longer.
Bare Minerals skincare is in Bare Escentuals stores and on QVC now, and will be rolling out to Bare Escentuals counters very soon.
