Q
Bee Good is a new brand to the Latest in Beauty team, and we are very excited to introduce you to our readers. Could you tell us a bit about how the brand was started?
A
I've been keeping bees as a hobby for many years, initially as a refuge from my busy life as a director in the hi-tech industry. As my interest in beekeeping grew, I began teaching at my local beekeeping association. Having access to the Hampshire beekeepers library, I discovered several books dating back to the 1700’s which included recipes for skincare products using beeswax, honey and propolis. Using these as a basis, my wife, Caroline started making lip-balms, bath bombs and hand creams from the beeswax and honey left over from my main honey harvest and we began selling them locally at various farmer's markets.

Over the years, these early Bee Good products won several local prizes and our customer base grew until the point where we had to make a decision as to whether Bee Good should stay as a hobby or become a full-time business. At that point I met Rebecca and Toni who had both previously held senior positions at Liz Earle, and along with Glen an ex colleague of mine the new Bee Good was born! It's still early days, but over the past two years the business has gone from strength to strength.

Q
At the heart of all Bee Good products are British Bees, could you tell us a bit more about the benefit of honey in beauty products?
A
For centuries honey has been one of nature's best-kept beauty secrets. Ayurvedic texts described treating wounds and sores with honey, saying that this sweet elixir could soothe pain, act as an antiseptic and speed up the healing of burns and other skin damage. It has so many skin benefits it’s hard to know where to start!

In its purest form it’s suitable for all skin types even sensitive, and assists with perfecting, cleansing, and protecting the skin. Naturally antibacterial, it helps to balance hormonal skin and is full of antioxidants that collectively contribute to the slowing down of skin ageing. Importantly, honey is a natural humectant so not only does it attract water it retains it in the skin so that the skin remains supple and elastic. This makes it extremely moisturising, soothing and able to protect against fine lines, wrinkles and dryness.

Q
All of your products contain fabulous ingredients, not just from Bees. How do you go about choosing the right ingredients for each product?
A
Our starting point is really understanding what our customers want from a product. From there, high quality, natural ingredients are at the heart of our products, sourcing from within the UK wherever possible. As we've already mentioned, British based honey, beeswax or propolis are key in all of our products. We then look to the UK's finest potent plant oils and active botanicals to understand how we can create the most effective products. We are passionate about blending the best of nature in hi-tech formulations to create a range of skincare designed to make a real difference to your skin. We are constantly testing new product formulations on ourselves and our team of willing volunteers - until the team is 100% happy with a formulation it won't make it to market.
