If there’s one thing we’re certain about when it comes to Autumn and Winter, it’s that it’s generally a time for lots of indulgence and a (regrettable) lack of self-restraint. That’s why October has become the month to kick those pesky bad habits (smoking, drinking and consuming too much sugar) with campaigns such as Stoptober and Go Sober for October there to help you out – and this year team LiB will be jumping on board the health wagon and giving them a go.

There are a few reasons you might want to consider a ‘mini-lent’. Firstly, the Christmas season is fast-approaching and all those parties are looming. Clearly, you’re going to look your best whatever the situation, but you could look and feel even better by giving up smoking. The obvious motivation is improving your general health, but kicking the habit will also help you reap the benefits of smoother, clearer skin, whiter teeth, and fresher breath – a game changer if you’ve got your whole mistletoe moment planned down to a tee (ahem!)

Going sober for October also has its benefits; you’re likely to start waking up with a spring in your step after better quality sleep, while increasing your energy levels and generally feeling healthier in everything that you do.

So how do you go about it?

If you’re cutting out the drink (all the gin in our case) it doesn’t mean you have to morph into a social hermit. There’s still fun to be had and post-work drinks need not be abandoned— try mocktails or non-alcoholic wine, beer, and prosecco (fake it until you make it and all that).

If you’re looking to give up smoking, this year’s Stoptober is a bit revolutionary: for the first time, they’re actively promoting vaping as an effective way to quit. If you weren’t aware, vaping is like smoking but without the tar – at least 95% less harmful, statistically. It’s also cheaper, with a vape pen costing as little as £20 and lasting longer than a pack of cigarettes or pouch of tobacco. To help us kick one of our bad habits, we enlisted the help of Vapelista, a dedicated vaping brand for women that delivers simple, stylish vaping products straight to your door.

What we’ve discovered…

Giving up habits is definitely a challenge, but this ‘healthy new us’ routine has done wonders for our general wellbeing and, unsurprisingly, our bank balance. We’ve got the drinking and smoking down, but the sugar? Not so much… Two out of three isn’t bad, right?

This month, detoxing has also been applied to our skin and MaskerAide’s Beauty Rest’ore Facial Sheet Mask has been our ‘go to’ for helping our skin look and feel as good as we do!
