For this month’s The Beauty Thread, we asked our Partnerships Manager, Doné, to talk us through the beauty routine that makes her feel good, utilising some of the products she’s crushing on from this month’s Beauty Crush Edit.

Whether I am planning a date-night out, or just a night out with friends, I love to spend time nourishing and pampering my skin before putting on my makeup. It makes my makeup look much more flawless, and also helps my skin’s tolerance to the makeup (aka – no breakouts!) Tonight, I am going to take you through my routine.

I start out by applying some micellar water to a reusable cotton pad and swiping it all over my face. This helps remove excess oil, and dirt and acts as a first cleanse to remove excess makeup that you may have been wearing.

My choice: Garnier Micellar for sensitive skin

I follow this with my second cleanse. I apply the cleanser to my Foreo and cleanse thoroughly.

My choice: Murad Age Reform AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser

Next, I apply a sheet mask and leave this on for a good 15 minutes. The fact that my skin has been properly cleansed means my pores will be clean and can effectively absorb the ‘good stuff’ from my mask.

My choice: Sanctuary Spa Nourishing Rose Petal Hydrogel mask

Once my mask has been removed, I pat the excess serum into my skin and wait a couple of minutes for it to absorb. Next, I use my favourite moisturiser to hydrate and prep my skin for my makeup.

My choice: IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream

The first step in my makeup routine is applying a primer to even out my skin before applying my foundation. After applying my foundation, I add a lighter coloured concealer under my eyes, on my chin, forehead and bridge of my nose. This helps to brighten my face and add some depth.

My choice: NYX Bare With Me hydrating jelly primer, Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation, Elf Camo Concealer.

Next, I use a translucent powder to set the areas I applied concealer to keep it in place throughout the evening.

My choice: CoverFX Perfect setting powder

I follow this with brows. If I could only do one thing makeup-wise before leaving the house it would have to be brows! I use a brow pencil to outline and define the edges of my brow. I then use a powder product or pomade to fill in the body of my brow and follow with a clear brow gel to hold them in place.

My choice: Benefit Brow Styler, and Revolution Pro clear brow gel.

The next step is bronzing/contouring the face. I love using a cream product to do this especially when I am going for a dewy finish. I apply the bronzer to my cheek bones and forehead around the edges of my hairline. I also add some to the sides of my nose and just underneath my jawline.

My choice: Technic Colour Fix2 cream contour palette

I follow this with a touch of blush to the apples of my cheeks and a hint of highlighter on the high points of my face.

My choice: MAC Sheertone blush in Sincere

For eyeshadow I use a neutral caramel, brown, and gold shadows to create a subtle shimmery eye look. I use brown mascara as it is softer, and I know I am going for a bold lip tonight.

My choice: Colourpop Double Entendre shadow palette and Benefit They’re Real in Brown.

My lipstick of choice is the new MAC Chili lipstick. It compliments my skin tone so well and really makes the whole look ‘pop’!
