With our latest Style Summer Essentials box (get yours here), we’re showing you how to flex your quads, SUQQU style. With one full size Designing Color Eyes palette among the line-up (worth £46 – the price of this box), you’ll receive one of four shades in your box. Whatever shade you receive, these versatile eyeshadow quads allow you to gradually build and layer colour to achieve beautifully sculpted eyes. Today, I’ve put these palettes into action, testing two shade variants that I’d opt for on a daily basis. Using 01 for a wearable day look and 05 for getting me ready for drinks with the girls, I quickly fell in love with formula – infused with a rich blend of oils to provide a lustrous velvety finish. The pigment is incredibly long-lasting and has been infused with light-bearing pearls with maximum translucency and as little white pigment as possible to create a 3D shine without effecting the colour pigment. It really is genius and the looks are endless.

EVERYDAY WEAR

DAY-LOOK-SUQQU

My everyday makeup routine is quite minimal, but on the days where I do like to make a little more effort, the SUQQU Designing Color Eyes in 01 YUUSHAKUYAKU has played its part magnificently. When it comes to eyeshadow, I usually stick to the three colour rule: base, crease and outer corner, but every now and again I do like to make use of the featured highlight for my brow bone and inner corners – which I’ve utilised in this look.

I especially like the pinky tones of this palette; it’s subtle enough for day time but pigmented enough to accentuate my blue eyes. I have to say that these eyeshadows were incredibly easy to blend (which is great when you’re not a pro and usually go too heavy on the outer corners like I do) and harmonise well. I used the tawny pink (bottom left) as my base shade before blending the darker plum brown (bottom right) through my crease and adding the dusky pink (top right) on the centre of my lids. Finally, I used the champagne highlight (top left) on my inner corners and brow bone.

SUQQU-NIGHT

When it comes to evening beauty looks, you can’t beat a smokey eye and red lip. Because I’m paler than pale, I shy away from intensely dark shadows. Therefore, when I do a smokey eye, it’s usually quite subtle. SUQQU’s Defining Color Eyes in 05 AOSHIZUKU provides slightly darker hues without being too intense; think daring, but not too daring. I did think this palette would be more purple in tones, but it’s more gunmetal grey, which initially I thought wouldn’t match too well with the running gold threads through the shadows. I was wrong.

I really enjoyed creating this look and, despite my initial reservations, the colours harmonised together perfectly. I was light handed when applying the darker hue (bottom left) on my outer corners and blended heavily towards the centre of my eye. This shade is also great for lining your lash line in place of eyeliner – I pressed it gently into the gaps of my lashes to mimic the look of liner. I then ran the golden shimmer (top right) over the rest of my eye and on my lower lash line to bring it all together, keeping the darker brown (bottom right) through my crease. The highlight in this quad was more pearlescent and cool toned, which I added lightly to the inner corners. My top tip for any application of darker shadows is to go lightly and remember you can easily add, but not so easily take away.

STYLE BOX EDITOR’S PICKS

style-editors-picksThere are many other incredible products in the latest Style box! Here are my top picks…

MAC’s Powder Kiss Lipstick in Sultry Move fast became one of my most worn lipsticks for everyday wear. I’m also a fan of the updated formula; it’s much more moisturising and provides a luxury lip experience that I’m fully on board with.

Nothing says summer quite like a golden glow, and the bareMinerals BarePro Glow Highlighter Drops bring the glow in abundance. The perfect accompaniment to any holiday, these multitasking drops are great for dropping into foundation or moisturiser.

When the Kiehl’s Calendula Serum-Infused Water Cream landed on my desk, I couldn’t wait to get home and put it on my face. The ultimate cooling texture, this water-based weightless cream packs in hydration and acts as a great base for makeup. I’m a fan.

Anyone who knows me knows that I love discovering new scents – usually outside of the mainstream players. Narciso Rodriguez’s Pure Music was too good not to resist with its rich classic summer notes and it’s not a strong contender on my fragrance tray.

I’ve been using Laura Mercier’s Translucent Loose Setting Powder for years; its foolproof formula keeps shine at bay and creates a soft-focus effect to subtly blur the look of fine lines and imperfections.

ELEMIS is by far one of my top skincare brands; I can’t fault it. The Peptide4 Plumping Pillow Facial acts like an overnight facial and leaves skin feeling plump come morning. I’ll give this ‘miracle product’ status.
