For this week’s Trend Report, we’re switching the conversation with the aim to support and celebrate brands that have brought themselves to the forefront of the Black Lives Matter conversation. We too stand in solidarity with all in this fight against systemic racism, white supremacy and the injustice and oppression of the Black community. We’re continuously listening and learning about how we can do better as a brand to provoke change for a world free of racism.

GLOSSIER SUPPORTS BLACK OWNED BUSINESSES

glossier_black_tones

Glossier is a brand we admire for its diversity in both product and marketing. A much-loved brand across social media, Glossier continuously champions the Black community, ignites positive conversation and delivers a spectrum of shades to suit all skin tones with their makeup line. Glossier has pledged a donation of $500k across organisations focused on combating racial injustice: Black Lives Matter, The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, The Equal Justice Initiative, The Marsha P. Johnson Institute, and We The Protesters. In an effort to make an impact within our own industry, the brand will be allocating an additional $500k in the form of grants to black-owned beauty businesses.

PAT MCGRATH X NAOMI CAMPBELL

A woman that really knows and understands the need for inclusivity in beauty, both personally and professionally, is Pat McGrath. It’s been announced that Naomi Campbell has been appointed as the first-ever global face of Pat McGrath Labs, fronting the Diva Rose makeup collection. The makeup line features a range of lip and eye products with pink shades and holographic hues.

DIVERSE SHADES

When it comes to colour cosmetics being inclusive to ALL, it comes down to the shade range. With many brands still lacking when it comes to offering its customers their perfect foundation match, it’s our favourite brands that DO that we want to celebrate. First and foremost, you cannot talk about diversity and inclusivity in beauty without mentioning Fenty Beauty. One of the first mainstream brands to pioneer a colour cosmetics line with a spectrum of colours and tones, it’s a go-to for many of the Black community. Another OG is MAC, which celebrates diversity and individuality of all ages, races and genders while accepting and celebrating all skin tones across its collections and campaigns. NARS is also welcomed by women of colour as it doesn’t fall short of shades.
