Ah Zoom calls… they are increasingly becoming the most normal way to communicate, both in our professional and our personal lives. For this month’s Beauty Thread, Social Media Manager Maria and Marketing Partnerships & Campaign Manager Doné put together their routines for camera-ready complexions – from dewy, naturally looking occasions to those Fri-yay celebrations!

DEWY, 9–5 NO-MAKEUP MAKEUP – MARIA

There’s no one who loves a statement cat-eye wing more than me, but I’ve definitely been leaning more towards natural, dewy makeup of late. No makeup makeup is all about the prep, so your skincare routine is key.

SKIN PREP

Firstly I wash my hands (because let’s face it, no matter what you put on your face, if you have bacteria on your hands, it can interfere with your routine and breakouts *will* happen), then I gently cleanse with my Paula’s Choice The Unscrub cleanser. Back in January, we also had a Soft Touch Face Foam from Crabtree & Evelyn which I recommend too! Following that, I go in with the toner and I LOVE Primark’s 5% Glycolic Toner – it’s got an irresistible watermelon and pineapple scent, and I’ve really noticed the benefits it’s achieved in brightening my skin (totally recommend too if you suffer with acne and breakouts, glycolic is perfect for clearing them up). I follow with a serum – Glossier’s Super Bounce is perfect for tight skin, and I complete the routine with the brand’s Priming Moisturizer – this is a two-in-one blurring pores and injecting moisture.

I turn my attention to the lips and brows next, and as this is going to be no makeup vibes, I’m looking for a simple, juicy lip and some soapy brows. The Like It On Top wet lip scrub is my new fave, so I apply that to rid the dead skin, then I keep it simple with Dr PawPaw’s soothing balm – add some colour to the lips with their other varieties! For brows, I just wet my spooly and grab some soap, applying a small amount to my brows and brushing them upwards. If you prefer powder, I sometimes use a light brown eyeshadow and the So Eco Angled Eyeliner Brush to carve out a nice arch underneath the brow too.

DEWY MAKEUP

The key to dewy makeup is to make the shine look natural. First things first, give yourself a good base. Instead of piling on the foundation, I predominantly use concealer – Glossier’s Stretch Concealer and The Ordinary’s Concealer are my two go-tos – or if you’re having lots of breakouts, or want to even up your skin tone, aim for a lighter foundation formula (I love e.l.f Cosmetics’ Flawless Satin Foundation). Once you have your base down, time to focus on adding colour. I add a touch of Zoeva’s Spice of Life palette to the cheekbones, followed by Cle Cosmetics’ Copper Rose Moonlighter cushion, a firm fave now. Then I top it with a tiny helping of Glossier’s Futuredew, an oil serum that adds an enviable glow.

Lastly, I turn to the eyes, and I love the way a pair of falsies can really transform the face. I apply a *very* thin black line just above the lashes for definition, then apply some subtle lashes (try the Eyeko Eye Do liner with the Sweed lashes in Ramina, both in the Fabulous Little Black Box). Finish by coating your own lashes in some kohl-pigmented mascara – I’ve been testing out the Laura Mercier Caviar Volume mascara (Fabulous Little Black Box) and I’m loving it!

GETTING FRI-YAY ZOOM CALL READY – DONE

ALL ABOUT THE BASE

I start each day with SPF, no excuses. I prefer to use a factor 50 but love the texture of the Dermalogica Prisma Protect SPF 30 so I slathered that all over my face today. Feels smooth and moisturising, yet not sticky. I followed this up with Code 8’s Radiate Beauty Balm to even out my complexion. It gives sheer coverage but gives the skin SUCH a beautiful glow. To build up the coverage a little in some areas where I need it, and to brighten up the under eyes and t-zone area I used the Maybelline Fit Me concealer. It is a lightweight formula but gives me a great amount of coverage.

Next, to set my concealer in place I use my Laura Mercier Translucent Honey Setting Powder. I apply this with a small fluffy eyeshadow brush and really buff it in to prevent creasing. For brows, I use Maybelline’s Brow Precise Fiber Filler. This is a brow mascara and I find it to be a no-faff quick and easy way to fill my brows – and the hold it gives them is incredible.

DEFINITION AND COLOUR

To define the face I add the Fenty Match Stix in Mocha to my cheekbones, forehead and under the jawline. It’s quick to swipe on and blend in with a brush. While it is a cream formula it feels like it blends into a powder-like finish on the skin.

TIME TO GLOW

For blush, today I used a M.A.C blush in Cowgirl but the bareMinerals Gen Nude blushes are also some of my favourites. To highlight the tops of my cheekbones I combined the Zoeva Spice of Life highlighter shade with the In Your Dreams Glitter Highlighter Cream in shade Déjà Vu.

I then used the In Your Dreams Pressed Glitter Balm in shade Spectra on my eyes to give a beautiful sparkle. I followed this up with some maScara (my choice for today is the Kiko Maxi Mod Mascara).

For lips, I filled my lips in with the delilah Lip Liner in Pout and then combined the two In Your Dreams glitter shades above to create a sparkly lip to match my eyes. I love how versatile these balms are! Since I am not using any bright colours for this look but want to get into the Friday mood – GLITTER is my vibe.

Here is the final look!
