WE ASKED AI TO APPROVE OUR BEAUTY EDIT

AI is everywhere right now. It's writing our emails, planning our holidays and apparently, it has opinions about skincare. So we thought…why not put it to work?

For our latest edit, we did something a little different. Instead of just curating our usual line-up of trend-led beauty picks, we asked AI one simple question for every product we were considering:

"Generally speaking, would this product be AI approved as a product worth trying?"

No agenda. No overthinking. Just a little bit of fun and a genuine curiosity about what the algorithm would say.

And honestly? It understood the assignment.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKED

We invited brands to submit their products for AI approval. Then we put each one to the test, asking AI to weigh in on whether it was genuinely worth trying. The results were (reassuringly) very good. 10 products made the cut, covering every corner of your routine from skincare and SPF to self tan, hair care and oral care. Worth £144 in total. All AI approved.

We want to be clear… this wasn't a serious scientific exercise. It was fun, it was playful and it was a way of tapping into one of the biggest conversations happening in beauty right now. But the products? Those are very, very real.

SO WHAT MADE THE CUT?

Starting with skin, the grüum hydra Intense Hydration Moisturiser earned its place for its barrier-strengthening, collagen-boosting formula packed with nature's finest hydrating ingredients. Alongside it, the Grown Alchemist Hydra-Repair Day Cream impressed with its plant-derived actives, silky texture and built-in priming effect that blurs pores.

For those who need their SPF to work a little harder, the Supergoop! Glowscreen SPF 30 in Sunrise is a champagne-tinted, hyaluronic-acid-packed sunscreen that doubles as a radiant primer. Protection and a glow-up in one step, the algorithm was very much here for it.

Bringing a hit of hydration to your glow, the Tan-Luxe Super Glow is a multi-purpose self-tan serum that combines naturally-derived DHA with hyaluronic acid and a superfood blend for a buildable, natural-looking tan.

For skin that needs a little extra love, the Disciple Good Skin Adaptogen Oil is packed with adaptogens to calm redness, rebalance and deliver that effortless lit-from-within glow. And the Kanzen Hypochlorous Acid Spray, clinically proven to battle blemishes and reduce redness in one spritz, is the kind of quietly brilliant product that your routine has probably been missing.

On the mask front, the Starskin DeepMelt Collagen PDRN Mask is next-level. Infused with PDRN (Salmon DNA), low molecular collagen and hyaluronic acid, it delivers glass skin in just thirty minutes. The kind of result that makes you do a double take in the mirror.

For tools, the Spectrum Pink Blending Sponge got a firm approval, a latex-free, precision-tipped sponge that makes flawless foundation application genuinely effortless.

Hair wasn't left out either. The Philip Kingsley Elasticizer has been a cult favourite since the 70s and it's still undefeated, clinically proven to reduce breakage after just one use and bring dry, dehydrated strands back to life instantly.

And finally, because your smile deserves a glow-up too, the Spotlight Oral Care Advanced Action Whitening Pro Toothpaste rounds out the edit with its triple-action formula of Hydrogen Peroxide, PAP and Diamond Powder, lifting stains, polishing teeth and protecting enamel without any sensitivity.

THE VERDICT?

Here's our honest take. AI is a brilliant tool. It is fast, thorough and surprisingly good at cutting through the noise. But beauty is also personal, sensorial and emotional, and that is something an algorithm will never fully replicate. The sweet spot is probably somewhere in the middle.
