The Latest in Beauty New Year Honours List: And The Winners Are…
Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

The votes have been counted and the results are in! For the last few weeks we’ve been asking you to vote for the best in beauty over the last 12 months. Forget ‘cult’ items and the beauty hall of fame, this isn’t about what we already know is good. Our New Year Honours recognise the brand new products that have really made an impression. After all, we’re all about the LATEST in beauty!

Without further ado, the winners are…

Best New Nail Product

Winner – Nail Rock Nail Wraps

At-home nail art without any of the fiddly bits or long drying time? It’s no wonder you guys voted for Nail Rock Nail Wraps as your favourite nail product of the year. Allowing us to try trends like metallic and animal print without the need for a pricey salon trip, these stick-on transfers bond using heat and last for days.

Buy it: Nail Rock Nail Wraps £6.64 each at NailRock.com

Best New Body Product

Winner – Xen-Tan Dark Lotion Absolute Luxe

Clearly sunkissed limbs are still very much sought after, as this rich, high-end tanning lotion nabbed the prize in the body category. Promising a natural-looking but very deep tan with just one application (and with none of the smell) Xen-Tan’s luxe lotion is a safe way to get a celebrity-style tan.

Buy it: Xen-Tan Dark Lotion Absolute Luxe £29.70 (RRP £39.99) at FeelUnique.com

Best New Skincare Product

Winner – BIOeffect EGF Serum

We’ve raved about this Icelandic miracle serum in the past, so we’re happy to see plenty of people agree with us that BIOeffect have created something very special indeed in their tiny bottle of liquid magic. Start saving those pennies though. Young, smooth, fabulous skin comes at a price – £125 to be exact.

Buy it: BIOeffect EGF Serum £125 at BIOeffect.co.uk

Best New Haircare Product

Winner – John Frieda Precision Foam Colour

Blowing shampoos, styling products and deep conditioners out of the water (no pun intended!) this no mess at-home colourant from John Frieda was a runaway winner in the hair category. Obviously, voters love a quick fix with this fast developing foam colourant that covers greys and stays vibrant for week.

Buy it: John Frieda Precision Foam Colour £9.99 at Boots.com

Best New Lip Product

Winner – e.l.f Mineral lipstick

Mineral makeup is notoriously expensive, but e.l.f offer fantastic entry-level offerings if you’re on a budget. The mineral lipstick (£3.50) comes in a plethora of wearable shades and offers long-lasting, hydrating colour all day long. No wonder you voted it the best new lip product.

Buy it: Mineral Lipstick £3.50 at elfcosmetics.co.uk

Best New Eye Product

Winner – Urban Decay Naked Palette

When Urban Decay decide to ‘do’ nudes, they don’t get dull! The Naked palette contains 12 generous shadow pans in a variety of non-boring beiges and browns that are perfect for creating everything from subtle washes of colour to a shimmery smoky eye. No wonder this sells out as soon as new stock hits the shelves.

Buy it: Urban Decay Naked Palette is currently sold out at most online stockists, but keep your eye on Beauty Bay, Debenhams and Look Fantastic.

Best New Beauty Gadget

Winner – Cloud Nine The O

Making huge old-fashioned roller sets a thing of the past, Cloud Nine’s innovative new product heats rollers one by one in its super-fast ‘pod’ for long-lasting curls. Voters obviously love the idea of custom building the perfect set by buying the rollers and pod separately, and it’s also a big hit in salons.

Buy it: Cloud Nine The O £152.95 at CloudNineHair.com

Best New Beauty Bargain (under £5)

Winner – e.l.f studio cream eyeliner

Another win for the bargainous e.l.f, who this time offer up a cream liner pot in various flattering colours that’s a great alternative to pricier gel eyeliners from department store brands. £3.50 brings you long-lasting drama with a subtle shimmer, and there’s even a brush included!

Buy it: Studio Cream Eyeliner £3.50 at elfcosmetics.co.uk

Celebrity Beauty Moment

Winner – Emma Watson

When Harry Potter star Emma released the first photo of her dramatic pixie crop, it was clear she’d gone to dramatic lengths to leave Hermione Granger behind. The edgy crop worked perfectly with her delicate features, and was definitely one of the celeb beauty highlights of the year!

Brand of the Year

Winner – e.l.f

No surprises here, as e.l.f not only wins in two product categories, but also gets your vote for Brand of The Year. The bargain online beauty retailer has gone from strength to strength in the last year, offering quality products from as little as £1.50 each. We love e.l.f, and clearly so do you!

Happy New Year – What’s to come from LiB this month!
Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

Happy New Year everyone!

As we roll (or, um, stumble) into 2011, you’d be forgiven for thinking we’d want to slow things down following our daily giveaways all through December. But you’d be wrong, oh ye of little faith! We at Latest in Beauty have all kinds of exciting things up our sleeves for the coming months.

The first half of January is set aside for a Full Body Blitz – and by that we don’t mean crash diets, detoxes or anything else silly like that. For the Latest in Beauty team, January is all about treats and indulgence, getting our bodies back on track after all that festive indulgence without a single mention of the word ‘diet’. Each day we’ll concentrate on a different body part, and there’ll be reviews, offers and giveaways along the way, so check back each day as we work our way up the body from feet to follicles!

During the second half of the month, we’ll be joining forces with some friends in the beauty blogging world to take a look back over the past few months and raise a glass to the products and people that shaped the last year in beauty. We reckon by now you all know that the likes of Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, NARS Orgasm Blush and YSL Touche Eclat are must-haves, so we’re not going to be giving them any more praise. Instead, our New Year Honours go to the new products that have had us in raptures over the last 12 months. We’d love our readers to get involved, so if you have any recommendations, do let us know!

We also have plenty of new samples going live on the site in the next few days, from fabulous foundations to very sophisticated skincare. If you’re not already a member of our main site, Sign up now and fill out your beauty profile if you want to get yourself on the list!
